Macon County Economic Development fostered a relationship with an urban site consultant, responsible for the development of major retail projects throughout the state of Missouri.   Consultant is currently in the engineering and pre-development stage for multiple retail businesses in the Macon area.  Construction of these projects to begin 2009 with completion dates scheduled for 2010!

2009

Long Branch Lake Marina – Opened Memorial Day 2009!

Multiple new retail projects open in downtown Macon – including West Winery!

Signed contract with Central Methodist University in partnership with MACC to open a satellite campus in Macon!

Second Annual 8th Grade Reception & Business Fair a great success!

Opening of Butner’s Auto Spa & Truck Wash!  MCED Worked with Kevin Butner to establish tax abatement on improvements to real property through the Chapter 353 program.

Passed the Landfill Fee for Macon County which will enable MCED to better promote our area, assist small businesses through a low interest loan program and support Macon County and cities within the county through infrastructure grants!

2010

Second Enhanced Enterprise Zone approved for Macon Downtown Business District!

Third Enhanced Enterprise Zone applied for North Macon County including the cities of Atlanta, Bevier & LaPlata!

The four-lane expansion of Highway 36 was completed September 2010!!!  Ribbon cutting celebration held July 10, 2010 in Macon – another historic event for Macon County!

Worked together with the City of Macon and Mark Twain Regional Council of Governments to apply for a CDBG which would fund a $620,000.00 new road project.  The purpose of this road is to facilitate a business expansion, a business relocation and a new start-up business that will build on this road.  Nixon Industrial Blvd was approved for funding by Governor Jay Nixon August 2010!  The bids submitted for this project came in over allotted funding amount and therefore the landowners, City of Macon and Macon County Economic Development are partnering together to resolve the $80,067.00 overage.
