Quality of Life

EDUCATION

Macon R-1 is our largest school district,  located in the City of Macon, our county seat. Our school services over 1,500 students in one convenient campus and is AAA rated, the highest educational rating in Missouri. Over 55% of our district’s graduates participate in some type of continued education, reflecting on our commitment to education.

Macon R-1 High School also offers classes in a variety of specialized skills at the Macon Area Career and Technical Education Center and is near many of the finest public and private universities, colleges and junior colleges in the Midwest. The people of Macon are convinced that a good education is a prerequisite to a good life.

HEALTH CARE

Macon is also a community committed to good health. The Samaritan Hospital, a modern, high quality health care facility, serves the area with excellent health care. The hospital’s commitment to growth has included recent additions in equipment, programs and physicians. A variety of health care professionals reside in our community, with specialists as well as family doctors proudly calling Macon their home.

HOUSING

Homes in Macon County run the full gamut of style, size and character. Our neighborhoods are well designed, well-kept and near schools, churches and shopping.

Two of our oldest buildings have been completely restored and reflect a unique architecture which is representative of the housing you’ll find throughout the county. You’ll also find homes which are more traditional in nature. All are affordable with housing prices lower than other Midwestern cities and much lower than homes on either coast. This is all due to the low cost of living you’ll find here.
